Intensive 50h online programme (5-day core taught programme: 24-30 September 2025 and approx. 10h of self-learning component) will enable and empower participants to address challenges arising at the intersection of human rights and business practices more effectively. The course fee is 350 Euro, which includes a 25 Euro administrative fee. Fee waivers are possible.*

About the Academy:

This intensive, five-day online programme complemented by self-learning component is tailored for students, professionals, NGO representatives, public administrators, and anyone committed to promoting the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGPs). Delivered by globally recognized scholars and practitioners, the Academy offers:

  • A certificate or confirmation of participation upon successful completion.
  • Networking opportunities with peers and leading experts.
  • Practical skills for implementing international business and human rights standards.
  • Interactive workshops and case studies with the leading legal experts, NGO leaders, and business professionals .
  • A comprehensive exploration of all three UNGP pillars: state duty to protect, corporate responsibility to respect, and access to remedy.

Who should apply?

  • Individuals from business, NGOs, Trade Unions, public administration, and academia (including PhD students).
  • Anyone dedicated to responsible business conduct and human rights.

Eligibility:

  • Basic knowledge of human rights.
  • Good working knowledge of English.
  • Citizens of Eastern European States Regional Group in the UN, as well as Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan.

*Fee waivers: Applicants from NGOs/CSOs, trade unions, academia, public administration, and students may apply at the time of application for the Summer Academy for a fee waiver, on condition that they will participate in a minimum of 90% of classes held. We encourage all eligible applicants to indicate in the application form whether they would like to be considered for the fee waiver. Participants, who receive a fee waiver, must pay only the 25 Euro administrative fee. In special cases, also the administrative fee can be waived.

The Central and Eastern Europe & Central Asia Summer Academy on Business and Human Rights (The Summer Academy) is organized by the Polish Institute for Human Rights and Business (PIHRB) (Polish: Polski Instytut Praw Człowieka i Biznesu) and the Ukrainian Yaroslav Mudryi National Law University (Ukrainian: Національний юридичний університет імені Ярослава Мудрого) in partnership with the Global Business Initiative on Human Rights, and in collaboration with the the CEECA Business and Human Rights AssociationCEECA Resource Hub and the UN Development Programme.

The Summer Academy 2025 is possible thanks to Sigrid Rausing Trust funding and pro-bono engagement of Polish Institute for Human Rights and Business, Ukrainian Yaroslav Mudryi National Law University and Global Business Initiative for Human Rights and others.
